WTF fund
Being a stranger in a place where inhabitants strive to put something in thier plate means you’re a fat chicken running around blindfolded.
We see vendors, syndicated drivers, hawkers and the likes more as ingenious providers to their families, than irritating opportunists ripping off tourists. Though they really are such pain in the A**, we still believe that starvation is the mother of all inventions, and with their notion that tourists bring-in heaps of dollars (not knowing much about the backpacking culture) It is unfair to them getting the blame of blowing up your trip budget.
And we are not denying that we’ve been a subject to these kind of transactions. Monette is a vulnerable subject, she can easily be appeased by the mere flashing of puppy eyes. She always gives-in to dramatic “my mother is sick” performances by some random people we meet. Ron can launch an all out war to abusive vendors but always surrender upon seeing those shiny machetes slipped behind their sarongs. (Who wouldn’t?)
That’s how we shelled out half of our budget for an elephant ride in Sri Lanka, gave several Million Dongs to a crying boy in the streams of Vietnam and we ended up semi-broke throughout the rest of the trip. We admit, sometimes we can be a bunch of soft hearted, sponged brained and rusty balled travelers. But these situations are something beyond our wits. That’s why we came up with the WTF? FUND.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The fund will only be touched in WTF? situations, or may be given to deserving genuinely hardworking locals who needs it most.
Donate any amount for the WTF? FUND and your donations will surely go far. In return we will be sending you a one of a kind Flip’n Travels’ postcard, drawn onsite by Ron in our next destination.
As the old Arabic proverb goes “If you have much, give some of your wealth; If you have little, give a piece of your heart.” So you can also opt sending your heart via courier and we will sell it in some organ transplant institutes (And PLEASE put them in Ziploc bags).
Thanks y’all!
