motherpacker!

No matter where we go, whether it is a short or long road adventure, be it a business trip to Dubai holidays in the Caribbean or backpacking in South East Asia, packing is the single most essential thing that could either make or break our escape. And sometimes, we still go back to the one who knows best and sometimes acts as if she knows everything, but nonetheless we listen to—our Moms.
Here are twelve of the respected seasoned (*cough*hottest) Filipino male travel bloggers and facts that correlates two of the things that have been …

flying in style

Flying in style is something that we always admire. We have seen chic travelers in transit whose couture efforts gain attention when they sashay in these busy public ports: Bulgari coat complete with a full Louis Vuitton luggage ensemble is just one of the classic scenes we have seen in the past. Recently I saw a guy in his late 50′s who’s rockin’ the airport hall with a simple yet classic denim, plain white tees, a pair of Bally boots and a Balenciaga tote–your uncle really is owning it! (snap snap)

of firsts and seconds…

It was one of those waking moments when I thought I was still trapped in la-la land because the text message that woke me up read something like, “we are being invited to guest on a TV show. Get your ass online.” So I staggered in the middle of the night and checked our email. Lo and behold, it was true. But then as I scanned the message, the taping dates fell on the dates Ron and I will celebrate his birthday in God-knows-where. I contacted the researcher and our chance of making ourselves …

a break from the hostel dorm

When we travel, most often than not, there will be days that we prefer staying in the hostel lazily rocking our knees and watch the time pass by…
Do I hear signs of aging? EF YOU!
I guess, with the speed rate of our lives as urban slaves, we are starting to appreciate the simple luxuries and the art of doing nothing. And the place you stay or the bed you sleep-in plays a big role of making this senile activity a success!

Recently, we came across Roomorama, an accommodation portal where you …

funda fatale

It took more than 30 minutes of open highway motorbike ride to head off to our final stop of the day. But the old school asphalt road and the feel of isolation in the driest place in Asia made the joy ride seem shorter than a house party quickie stint. (Disclaimer: I do not know anything about quickies! I’m telling the truth).
I learned a new skill of taking pictures on a running motorbike, but the speeding open vehicle, the smashing wind, fine dust and some random flying small objects hurts …

incessant proposal

There is one thing that ticks me off when I travel, and that is being asked the never ending question of why I am alone (except, of course, when I travel with Ron, then WE suffer the question: “how long have you guys been dating?” Ugh!). Sometimes, people get clever and would ask me if I am meeting a friend when I get to my destination. I open a can of worms the moment I answer, “No.” Then follows the question of my civil status; of why, at my age, …

Filled with loathsome La Paz Batchoy soup, we decided to move along to get to our next destination, the Beach. Finally…
We hopped on a cab to take us to the bus terminal in Jaro and labored about 2 and a half hours of sweltering bus ride to the isolated town of Concepcion. We unfortunately planted ourselves beside the window so that when we went down the bus, the skin color of our left arms are nowhere near our right’s. We were dropped off at the wet market where our contact …

April is the cruelest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots and spring rain.
~t.s. eliot, the waste land

It was late afternoon in 1991, when I noticed that the window in my room is covered with what seemed to be like a thin layer of flour. I went out to find out what’s happening. It was like snowing, but the falling specks was dry and not cold. I also noticed that the car parked outside was covered with what looked like confectioner sugar. I wiped a …

We booked a flight to China early this year, and I could have started applying for the Chinese visa long ago, but I guess I’m too busy procrastinating in the last two months that’s why I end up (you guessed it) cramming.
Here are my struggles in getting the much coveted L Type (Tourist) Visa:
There are different types of Chinese visas. But for a first timer Filipino passport holders, the L visa is what we need. Since I only have less than 2 weeks to burn before hitting the airport to …

After our Kota Kinabalu stint last April, we were asked the question “How much was the damage?” for God knows how many times. So we stole this idea of post trip accounting from Nina Fuentes of justwandering.org
So here you go, once and for all

PART 1: MANILA TO CLARK
The only Airline that flies from Philippines to Kota Kinabalu is Air Asia, which embarks at Clark International Airport in Pampanga.

Bus from Quezon City to Dau – PhP 130
Tricycle to Clark gate – PhP 70
Private jeep to Clak Airport – …
